The thirtieth annual International Conference of Shluchos, known as “The Kinus,” begins today in Brooklyn, New York. Over 3,000 women—directors and lay leaders of Chabad centers in 100 countries—are expected to attend.

The conference will focus on the unique contributions of women leaders, past and present, to Jewish life. The annual event coincides with the yartzeit of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson, this year, on Monday, January 28.

The conference explores a host of issues relevant to Jewish outreach and community building through workshops and lectures. The Sunday night Gala Banquet, this year at a new location— the New York State Armory, in Brooklyn—features presentations and performances by emissaries and lay leaders from as far as Thailand and the Brazilian Amazon.

Running parallel to the sessions for emissaries will be a program for lay leaders who have joined their shluchos for the conference. Another track caters to the children of the shluchos in an overnight-camp style program.

It’s the spirit and energy that comes from connecting with the other participants that many women look forward to. “There’s nothing like the feeling of being with my fellow shluchos,” says emissary Dina Deutch, director of Chabad of Samara, Russia for twenty-one years. “We’re really all in it together, all part of the Rebbe’s army. The Kinus gives me the boost I need to go back and inspire my community.”

The Gala Banquet will be streamed live on Lubavitch.com beginning at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, January 27.
